Keith appeared in 12 games as a catcher for the 1982 Cardinals team, batting .370 in 27 at-bats.
After a three-year minor-league career, Champion turned to coaching for ten years before serving as an Advance Scout
for the Chicago Cubs from 1995-1999.
From 2000-2006 Keith served as Special Assistant to the GM for the Cubs, and from 2007-2008 with the Boston Red Sox in
the same capacity.
In November, 2008, Champion was named Special Assistant to the GM with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
